Salu-Salo

Salu-Salo, Tagalog for feast, is a no-holds-barred Filipino food competition. Only one will be crowned the Kampeon.

Hosted by

The International Institute of Rural Reconstruction is hosting a rousing, Top-Chef-meets-Chopped, Filipino food competition to raise money for our elementary school nutrition programs in The Philippines.

Our Bio-Intensive Gardens bring health and nutrition education into the classrooms of poor and rural schools in the Philippines. Through these gardens, we teach students and in turn, their families, about eating healthy, and help bring nutritional foods into the school lunch programs.

You can learn more here.

The dishes featured will be inspired by the vegetables (think purple yam, amaranth, or even cow peas) the students grow.

Speakers

      • Neil Syham
      • Chef and Co-Founder at Lumpia Shack
      • Neil is a seasoned chef and has worked with Tides Seafood and the Gramercy Park Hotel. He uses his Filipino-Chinese background and classic culinary training to create dishes with Asian flavor profiles. Lumpia Shack is a food stand at Smorgasburg in Brooklyn serving Filipino-inpsired Chinese spring rolls. They use seasonal, local, and pesticide and hormone-free produce and meat in their dishes.

      • Norman, Rob, and Allister
      • Co-Founders, Masarap Supper Club
      • The Masarap Supper Club was conceived by three friends who shared an appetite for throwing cheeky dinner parties. By curbing trends and warping traditions, their chefs create one-of-a-kind menus that challenge even the grumpiest of palettes. While Filipino food has been foundational in our journey, they take pride in the diversity that each of their chefs bring into the kitchen.  Their themed events are hosted in extraordinary private spaces and typically involve a thoughtful cocktail hour with canapes and a five-course dinner service (with a few surprises along the way).

      • Maharlika
      • Maharlika is not your mother's Filipino cooking, and they even aren't even trying to be a traditional Filipino restaurant...and that's the point. Maharlika proudly features their interpretations of classic dishs as well as fresh new dishes that are influenced by the flavors and cultures of the Philippines. They are serving 100% Pinoy dishes that have be re-interpreted with attention to detail and a careful selection of ingredients.
